Privacy policy

Every video frame is processed on your own computer's graphics card and thrown away. Your camera feed, the facial landmarks derived from it, and your settings never leave the machine. The extension makes exactly one kind of network request in its life, and only when you ask it to: checking a licence key. That is covered in section 4.

1. What this covers

NixiCam is a browser extension for Chrome and other Chromium browsers that retouches, reframes and records your webcam during browser-based video calls — Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom Web, Discord and others. This policy describes what it does and does not collect.

2. What is collected

Nothing, with the single exception in section 4. In more detail:

• No server for video. There is no backend. During normal camera operation the extension makes no network requests at all.
• No video leaves the device. Frames are captured, processed by WebGL2 shaders on your GPU, and handed straight back to the page. Nothing is recorded, stored or uploaded unless you press record, and that file saves to your own downloads.
• No facial recognition. A MediaPipe Face Landmarker model, bundled inside the extension, tracks geometric points — eye corners, jaw outline — for the frame currently being drawn. It does not identify anyone, compute biometric embeddings, or store an identifier. The coordinates are discarded as soon as the frame is drawn.
• No analytics. No tracking of browsing, page visits, call participants, meeting length or audio. There is no telemetry of any kind.

3. Permissions and why they are needed

• storage — saves your settings (slider positions, chosen look, licence state) in chrome.storage.local. This stays on your computer.
• Host access (<all_urls>) — needed so the extension can wrap navigator.mediaDevices.getUserMedia before a meeting site's own scripts run, which is the only way to hand it a processed stream on any site. The extension does not read or modify page content.
• Host access (api.polar.sh) — used only when you click Activate on a licence key. No other request is made to this or any other host.

4. Payments and the one network request

NixiCam Pro is sold and billed through Polar. When you activate a licence key, the extension sends that key — and nothing else — to Polar's licence API to confirm it corresponds to a real, unrefunded purchase. Polar's reply may include the purchase email attached to the key; that is stored locally so the extension can show your activation status, and it is not sent anywhere else. NixiCam never sees your card details.

If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date at the top.
